The National University of Mongolia (NUM) was founded in 1942 with three faculties of Medicine, Veterinarian Science and Pedagogy. So far since 1954, international undergraduate and post graduate students from USSR, China, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Vietnam, Laos, Cuba and India have been studying at the NUM.
In the academic year of 2014, a total of 331 international students enrolled at the NUM. The University established the Department of Postgraduate Affairs with the goal of growing the number of postgraduate students. The total number of undergraduate students of NUM in 2014’s academic year was 19,605 while there were 3,385 postgraduate students and 1,035 faculty members.
As one of the newly founded School at NUM, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) has adopted programs and curriculums related to Engineering, Technology and Applied Sciences from School of Mathematics and Computer Science, School of Information Technology, School of Geography and Geology, School of Biology and Biotechnology, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Physics and Electronics and School of Economics. SEAS aspire to be the leading center of the country’s technical development and a nation-wide base of information that will be utilized for crisis solving.
The Department of Environmental and Forest Engineering (DEFE) has established under SEAS in 2016 due to the structural changes of NUM, with 3 learning programs such as: Environmental Sciences; Environmental protection technology; Forestry.
Besides promoting equal and mutually beneficial international cooperation with partner institutions, the NUM is actively involved in coordinating international scholarship programs including Erasmus Mundus, AusAid, Fullbright and Eurasia. The NUM has been a trusted partner of Erasmus Mundus since 2009 with over 70 students and faculties involved in various programs such as Bridging the Gap, One More Step, AREAS and Swap and Transfer.
